Soar Detroit is dedicated to providing literacy tutoring to kids in Detroit to foster life-changing relationships and help kids flourish. Volunteers play a crucial role in helping us meet our mission. We are grateful for your involvement and willingness to help Detroit's youth.

What you need to know...
Who can mentor?
Anyone who wants to make a difference in a child's life. Remote mentors must be 18 years+. In-person mentors must be 14 years+.
Who will I mentor?
Kids who are behind in their reading and need a little extra help.
What's the commitment?
At least 1 hour per week through May. It’s a small commitment that yields huge results.
When & where will I mentor?
Soar will offer in-person and remote tutoring during the 22-23 school year. Sit with a student, or mentor online via Zoom from your home or office.
In-person mentors will need to follow Soar’s COVID prevention policy
How do I sign up?
Complete the registration form. We'll notify you about upcoming training sessions. A background check, which may include fingerprinting, will be required before you begin working with a student, but you will not be charged for it.
In light of the continued COVID 19 pandemic, Soar Detroit will begin the 22-23 school year with both in-person and remote tutoring.
Remote Mentor Requirements:
