Soar Detroit is dedicated to providing literacy tutoring to kids in Detroit to foster life-changing relationships and help kids flourish. Volunteers play a crucial role in helping us meet our mission. We are grateful for your involvement and willingness to help Detroit's youth.

In light of the continued COVID 19 pandemic, Soar Detroit will begin the 21-22 school year with online tutoring only. We will consider resuming some in-person tutoring during the Winter or Spring Terms if the public health situation warrants.

 

Mentor Requirements: 

 

  • Laptop or desktop computer with webcam and audio

  • Reliable Internet Connection 

  • General Computer Skills and Familiarity with Windows Office and Video Conferencing 

  • Online mentors must be age 18 or older

What you need to know...

Who can mentor?

Anyone 18 years or older who wants to make a difference in a child's life and can read.

Who will I mentor?

Kids in Detroit who are behind in their reading and need a little extra help.

What's the commitment?

An hour per week, now through May. It's a huge commitment, but even bigger results!

When & where will I mentor?

We're offering remote tutoring only for the 21-22 school year. Mentor online from your home or office.

How do I sign up?

Complete the registration form. We'll notify you about upcoming training sessions. A background check, which may include fingerprinting, will be required before you begin working with a student, but you will not be charged for it.
