Recent reading results for Detroit Public Schools (2013) show that only 27 percent of Detroit fourth-graders tested at or above basic reading levels.
Soar Detroit provides children with one on one literacy tutoring because we believe every child should have the opportunity to thrive.
86% of Detroit's third graders cannot read at grade level - we're here to help change that.
Since 2005, Soar Detroit has been successfully helping every willing child read at or above grade level. Our students increase on average 2.3 grade levels after just one year in our literacy program.
Children enrolled in Soar receive one-on-one mentoring and an individualized learning plan prepared by a professional education specialist.
Traditionally, Soar operates after school, where children come for one hour, two days a week. Due to COVID-19, services are virtual and held during the school day.
One Hour per Week that Will Outlast a Generation
Our students are ready to learn and to excel. What a reading mentor devotes to each student is invaluable, not only for their academic success, but to their confidence as a bright young learner.
Your small investment of time, a minimum of one hour per week, with a student can change the trajectory of a child's life. This opportunity to partner with Soar Detroit is one that will outlast a generation.
