Soar Detroit provides children with one on one literacy tutoring because we believe every child should have the opportunity to thrive.
86% of Detroit's third graders cannot read at grade level - we're here to help change that.
Since 2005, Soar Detroit has been successfully helping every willing child read at or above grade level. Our students increase on average 2.3 grade levels after just one year in our literacy program.
Children enrolled in Soar receive one-on-one mentoring and an individualized learning plan prepared by a professional education specialist.
Located all across the city, Soar operates after school, where children come for one hour, two days a week.
The plan, with your help, is to embark on a citywide mission to teach every willing 3rd grader how to read. With 2017 marking the 50th anniversary of the Detroit uprising, this moment in time offers a unique opportunity to unite.
With the collaboration of over 200 churches, local businesses, and your involvement, we know it can be done.

You Can Be a Hero
Detroit is a city full of heroes. There are great parents who work hard to give their children the best chance at success. There are kids who work hard in school, rising above challenges and going on to make an impact around the city and world. There are teachers pouring their lives out for students and wishing there were just more hours in the day.
And there’s you. Detroit needs you to step into this massive challenge to help the comeback city come back. There are two ways you can be a hero. They’re not easy, but being a hero never is.
